The main instigator of the Jia Shen Rebellion is Zhang Huai Yi, who is Zhang Chu Lan's grandfather and also the younger brother of the current Zhang Tian Shi. He had once refused to accept the Tian Shi Degree passed down to him by Lao Tian Shi, but he remembered the runic symbols contained within the degree. The Tian Shi Degree holds the secrets of cultivating immortality, which is the origin of the Eight Extraordinary Techniques. However, it also contains powerful restrictions to prevent the secret from being leaked to anyone.
In his quest to explore the path of immortality, Zhang Huai Yi joined forces with Wu Gen Sheng and 36 other individuals, including both righteous and evil factions, to decipher the runic symbols of the Tian Shi Degree. They engraved the symbols onto a person's body, making her the vessel of the Tian Shi Degree. This person is Bao Er Jie, who is Feng Bao Bao, Wu Gen Sheng's younger sister. Wu Gen Sheng harbored selfish intentions and wanted to bestow the power of the Tian Shi Degree upon her. He killed the leader of the San Yi Sect and took away their ultimate technique, the "Triple Reversal of Life," teaching it to Bao Er Jie so that she could serve as the vessel for the Tian Shi Degree.
Is the comic updated to this point? Or is it just your speculation?
This episode was really poorly adapted. It completely missed the crucial plot point that showcases Zhang Chu Lan's character. He's not a hot-blooded youth; instead, he's shrewd and calculating, always living cautiously.
Whether he chooses to save someone or not is a result of careful consideration. Moreover, there were no repercussions or consequences mentioned later on in this regard.
Regarding the chaos of the Jia Shen Rebellion, what's currently being shown is that those prestigious and righteous sects covet the Eight Marvelous Techniques discovered by our side.
They want them, but we won't give in. So they label us as thieves, claiming to eliminate us, but in reality, they want to capture us. Whoever captures us can claim the techniques.
During our escape, Feng Bao Bao encountered some trouble. Wu Gen Sheng wanted to gather the Eight Marvelous Techniques to save his daughter. Seven people came, but the only one missing was Duan Mu Ying, the Dual-Handed Master.
The Qigong Source Flow can gather the power of the other individuals outside, but it cannot gather the power of Dual-Handed Master because Duan Mu Ying resents them for not rescuing him.
Therefore, he didn't agree, and as a result, the Qigong Source Flow cannot gather the power of the Dual-Handed Master. Feng Bao Bao is alive but has lost her memories.
Furthermore, based on the timeline, Feng Bao Bao should be of the same generation as Duan Mu Ying and Zhang Huai Yi. Xu Xiang, the Second Dog, and Zhang Chu Lan's father belong to the same generation, with some age difference but not significant.
Therefore, Zhang Chu Lan and Xu SanXu Si are of the same generation. Therefore, Feng Bao Bao is of the same generation as Zhang Chu Lan's grandparents.
As an anime fan, I came here to give it a try and see how the live-action adaptation turned out. Surprisingly, the level of faithfulness to the original is quite decent. Currently, Zhang Chu Lan and Bao'er are carrying the show, as it's impossible to achieve a 100% faithful portrayal of animated characters' nuances and expressions. As long as they capture the essence, it's good enough. One downside is that the special effects for Xu San were a bit too cartoonish, and Xia He's seductive allure fell a bit short. Overall, it's still worth following. I'm particularly interested in seeing how the first season concludes because that's where the essence of the story lies. It was so touching, I remember crying my eyes out the first time I watched it. It also sets up the relationship between Bao'er, Zhang Chu Lan, and their family. I hope the production team understands that sentiment and manages to convey it.
To be fair, as someone who has only watched one episode, I really think it's pretty good. Don't expect the anime filter to be too strong. There's always a gap between the visuals of anime and real-life characters. If the live-action and anime were exactly the same, there wouldn't be a need for anime to exist.
It's like drawing on a blank piece of paper versus continuing to draw on a paper with notes; there's a difference. I'm not a fan of anyone in particular, and I've also watched the anime version. It's challenging to make a live-action version of this kind of drama.
The male lead was well-chosen. Changing to an idol with too much burden wouldn't be able to portray that mischievous feeling of Peng Peng. The female lead's attractiveness withstands criticism, and her vacant and cute expression is not stupidity.
This effect actually tests acting skills. Anime and live-action are different fields, just like imagining a person with perfect looks and a perfect personality in your mind. Can they truly appear before you without any flaws? So, don't mindlessly criticize.
Be rational. If it could be exactly the same as the anime, there wouldn't be a need for anime to exist.
So Feng Bao Bao is the rootless daughter. Back then, Rootless gathered the eight holders of extraordinary skills to save Feng Bao Bao. Except for Duan Mu Ying, the other seven people used their self-realized extraordinary skills to revive Feng Bao Bao.
However, Duan Mu Ying's memory was not restored. In simple terms, Feng Bao Bao's revival relied on those seven extraordinary skills. Each of the seven skills plays its own role within Feng Bao Bao's body, giving her these abilities: immortality, eternal youth, and a transcendent state.
The story you thought: Bao'er, you've been searching for your family for seventy years, and we're here to help you, and we are your family.
The actual story: Bao'er, even though you not only forgot your family before the age of twenty but also just forgot your family from twenty to ninety years old, it's okay because this is true happiness, you know.
If you insist on comparing the original work with the live-action adaptation, if you love the original work so much, why don't you just stick to reading the manga? The live-action adaptation will always have differences. If it remains exactly the same, then what's the point of making a live-action version? If the live-action adaptation were to be made exactly like the manga, it would be intellectually backward, even stupid and a terrible film. Initially, I was worried that if they followed the original work too closely, it would be awkward or even silly. However, they made changes in collaboration with the original author to make it more suitable for the live-action adaptation.
This episode was so exciting! I was about to give up on the drama after the previous episode, but it seems like the highlight of this show is not Zhang Chu Lan. The barrage comments have decreased a lot, probably because many people abandoned it after the last episode, which was really disappointing.
It almost made me miss this episode, where Zhang Chu Lan and Shen Chong had a tense confrontation. Why did Shen Chong have to look so fierce? Zhang Chu Lan's remark about sexuality completely caught him off guard.
He's really skilled at manipulating people's hearts. Zhang Chu Lan is also strange for not fighting back when being hit. It's like he's playing the role of the injured protagonist, which is just frustrating.
Zhang Chu Lan's character has collapsed. In the original work, although Zhang Chu Lan was a frivolous person, he was also meticulous and had a strong sense of justice.
He was a master at maneuvering and plotting. He had a cool and funny yet calm demeanor, without pouting all the time. In the original story, Zhang Chu Lan was "in a hurry" to find Feng Bao Bao, but I didn't see any urgency in Zhang Chu Lan's actions.
Why emphasize the "hurry"? It's because earlier, Wang Ye mentioned that he wanted to uncover the story behind the 36 thieves and Feng Bao Bao, which could potentially change the world's dynamics and involve many lives.
The final episode's changes were well done. Baoer's memories might not necessarily be completely erased; perhaps she's just joking around with Zhang Chulan. The main improvement was the clear adaptation of the Lv family and Duan Mu Ying storyline.
In the manga, Qu Tong is Lv Liang's sister, but she possesses Duan Mu Ying's soul. Moreover, they directly combined the Lv family and Duan Mu Ying's Twenty-Four Festivals Valley, making the story more compact and exciting. The mysteries of the Jia Shen Rebellion are still unresolved, so there will definitely be a continuation in the second season.
They're likely to expand the story to include the Biyou Village and Tangmen arc, but the foreign arc story won't be changed, and it's not as enjoyable to watch.
Not feeling good about it. Actually, leaving some suspense is fine, but it has already revealed a lot. In the novel, for example, Bao'er is speculated by netizens to be an illegitimate daughter, and even Qu Tong's identity. Is Zhang Chu Lan also awakening the Qi body source?
Will it be used in the later fights? Moreover, now that everyone knows Bao'er's identity and Lv Liang has turned himself in, why bother going to Biyou Village? I guess the entire realm of extraordinary beings could come and capture Bao'er.
This is even more captivating than the Eight Marvelous Techniques, as it involves the resurrection of the dead.
The plot of the first four episodes is almost catching up to the fourth season of the anime. It doesn't feel disjointed and flows well. The performances are quite good, with Bao'er and Wang Ye being visually appealing, and Zhang Chu Lan showcasing impressive acting skills. Looking forward to the upcoming plot developments.
I watched the live-action adaptation of the anime "Yi Ren Zhi Xia" and I feel that it was actually very well done. The plot remained largely faithful to the original, and the story was rich. It had moments of comedy, such as during the martial arts competition, and also moments of sadness, like when Xu Xiang shared his past with Feng Bao Bao before his death.
It truly moved me to tears. Many of my friends around me also really enjoyed this TV series. I hope it continues to improve and do well.
Having watched numerous fantasy, mythological, historical, and modern dramas, I must say that this series, although a bit rough, is watchable, and the ending is much better than many other shows. I'm looking forward to the second season and even more seasons to come.
I hope the subsequent visual effects are more realistic and dynamic. Personally, I feel that it has a bit of a "The Ultimate One" vibe. Overall, I give it a 5-star rating and wish them good luck!
Is there anyone else like me who paused to read the comments? It's not about whether it's good or not. Witchcraft is just an ancient legend, so you have to present it in an ancient setting.
Mixing modern costumes with ancient stories just doesn't click. People living in the present, who has ever seen or heard of witchcraft nowadays? We've only heard of magic tricks.
Didn't Duan Mu Ying know how to alter memories? Why didn't she modify Lv Ci's memories and take the opportunity to escape? As the owner of the Eight Wonders Technique, why did she end up being imprisoned for 60 years?
As for the relationship between Bao'er and Zhang Chu Lan, it can't be described in terms of the present notions of family, romantic love, or friendship. Zhang Chu Lan definitely has a liking for Bao'er, but it's mostly gratitude, appreciation, and a sense of responsibility.
He feels a deep sense of responsibility towards Bao'er. Without the past, after Xu Xiang's departure, from the moment he refused to be a celestial master and agreed to be with Bao'er, he became the next Xu Xiang.
He will love Bao'er, take care of her, protect her, and accompany her. He also knows that Bao'er will remain forever young and immortal. But from the moment he embraced her, he willingly accepted it. Since then, the unstoppable chariot heading towards the truth of the Jia Shen turmoil can never be stopped, even if it means sacrificing himself.
Because Jia Shen is the only path to unravel Bao'er's true identity, and because he has already rejected the celestial master's intervention.
Wang Ye's visit to Longhu Mountain has another important purpose, which is to persuade Zhang Chu Lan. What is his relationship with Zhang Chu Lan? It's not that he doesn't want him to get involved in the troubles.
Of course not. Wang Ye doesn't have any ulterior motives here. It's purely because he deduced that some of Zhang Chu Lan's choices may lead to a worse future for the world.
That's why he's willing to put himself in a difficult position and try to guide Zhang Chu Lan towards a better direction for the world.
Wang Ye has reached such a high position and yet remains self-aware. He recognized his own shortcomings through Zhang Chu Lan and made the right choice to transition from being aloof to embracing the mortal world and gaining experience in the mundane realm.
Wang Ye, oh Wang Ye, so likable. He could have sought only good fortune and avoided danger, but he didn't. Though he appears detached from the world, he has never underestimated it.
Despite seeming indifferent to everything, he truly cares about the fate of many people.
This episode's adaptation is really disappointing. Lu Ling Long, who was originally a strong and resilient girl capable of protecting others, has been transformed into a helpless little girl who needs others for protection. Tu Jun Fang is also missing, and Zhang Chu Lan's character development has completely collapsed. Does the production team think that Zhang Chu Lan is weak? Are they resorting to the cliché of leveling up through monster fights? I'm truly baffled by this.
I agree. This particular segment renders all the previous buildup meaningless. Statements like "a more than ten-year period of being single" and facing a ten-year-old opponent, or that he is a child who knows what he wants, completely fail to support the subsequent events. While it's understandable that an adaptation may not strive for an exact replication of the original manga, the core essence should not be lost. Zhang Chu Lan is the protagonist, after all.
Is it possible that the author made these changes themselves? Personally, I find that the manga has many illogical and overly melodramatic aspects. So far, in the TV series, I think everything is quite reasonable.
