The drama became less enjoyable after the internal conflicts and the disregard for reporting the truth in the last ten episodes. However, I quite liked the finale. The happy ending for all the characters was well-rounded. She Shi Man returned as the director, in charge of news coordination, while Jia Yan became the deputy director, ensuring the quality of news (I think she repented in the last episode, so let's ignore her period of turning dark. During that time, her character was no longer fit to be a journalist). Xiao Wei left SNK, which wasn't suitable for her, and embarked on a new life. Liu Yan continued to pursue the truth without constraints on the front lines, and Cathy embarked on a path to high-ranking positions (I must say, Xu Shi Qing did a great job as the supporting female character this year). All the female characters are doing what they want and what suits them, which is great. I'm satisfied and looking forward to the second season! ????????

A grand female-led drama set in the news industry. Although I'm from Guangdong, I haven't watched many TVB dramas. This is the only TVB drama I've watched from start to finish in my memory. I have to say, compared to domestic entertainment dramas, TVB really dares to take risks. At first, it seemed like a palace drama, but later on, I realized that it's more like the other side of a news organization—they chase after the truth, have a sense of justice, and engage in power struggles to obtain what they want (including news resources, as well as power and reputation). In recent years, Hong Kong TV dramas have a tendency to include a "famous quote" at the beginning to elevate the theoretical level. However, during filming, each actor seems to have an overly deliberate and theatrical performance. In this drama, the characters don't grow or change throughout the story; they remain the same from their introduction to the end. The entire group of characters holds the same dream, and each person's desires are severely one-dimensional.
By the way, why didn't the male anchor have any conflicts? Besides brushing up on Cantonese, he seemed to serve no other purpose.

1. Placed a decade or two ago, this level of quality would have been considered basic for TVB dramas (I remember watching a lot of Hong Kong dramas when I was young, and I think most people have seen them too). Now, it stands out among the trashy domestic entertainment dramas. It's a typical fast-paced and enjoyable drama. I found the early episodes quite enjoyable, but it became increasingly boring later on. Except for Wenjie and Xu Shi Qing, the other characters feel like plot devices with inconsistent development.
2. Fang Tai is the emperor, Fei Ye is the chief eunuch, and the harem is filled with power struggles and internal conflicts. If the essence of palace intrigue dramas is to oppose feudalism (everything is wrong, everything is beyond human control), then is the core of this drama to overthrow capitalism?! To explore the alienation caused by capitalism? ! It doesn't seem like they conveyed that meaning; it's just a straightforward enjoyable drama. Anyway, an excellent enjoyable drama is already a hot topic and a high-quality show to enjoy!

Four and a half stars. As someone who has worked in the media for sixteen years, on one hand, it awakened my original ideals about journalism, and on the other hand, I understand the exaggerated portrayal of workplace conflicts in a fictional setting. However, the pacing was good, and it didn't have a disappointing ending. In the end, it proved that TVB still has the ability to produce good dramas. It looks like there will be a second season, and I hope it doesn't become a lackluster continuation.

It's already half past twelve, and I couldn't bear to sleep after watching the third episode. By the time I finished watching nearly twenty episodes, I felt that Jiayan's character had collapsed. But in the end, they managed to save it, and it was really captivating. Each character is vivid and multidimensional, with no absolute villains or absolute heroes. Although the process of uncovering the truth feels a bit suspenseful, like a cheat code in Detective Conan, the overall character relationships and development are very interesting. And another important point is that each beauty has her own charm: Cathy's sexiness, Xiaowei's delicate beauty, Men's elegance, and Jiayan's maturity. Tang Zhi Yao's appearance was short but left a deep impression due to her stunning beauty.

For me, it's not exactly a professional drama, but more of a workplace drama. The story revolves mainly around office politics, which is a strong suit of Hong Kong dramas. The last few episodes took some unexpected turns, but overall, the plot and pacing are good, keeping the viewers engaged. Each of the female characters has their own charm, especially the female lead. It feels like a drama made for adults, without awkward and childish scenes, without using work as an excuse for romantic relationships. Everyone is focused on their work and engaging in "palace intrigue." The strength of Hong Kong dramas still shines through.

The ending update, I don't know if it's an editing issue, but the conclusion felt rushed and unclear. The guest appearance at the end would be inexplicable if it wasn't a setup for the second season. The most outrageous thing is Zhang Jia Yan. After finally gaining power, they don't control the content, and the character arc completely collapses. The logic is chaotic throughout, with everyone's motivations constantly changing, but it doesn't hinder its entertainment value! // It's entertaining! Intense and thrilling! Too exaggerated, too pretentious, a false sense of elitism. Okay, I admit it. Because I'm not watching a documentary, I'm watching a TV drama, hey. As viewers, we have the right to watch TV, but we also need the ability to deconstruct the content and discern the truth. Making a TV drama is basically telling everyone, "This is my fabrication, any resemblance is purely coincidental." So what are we really watching? I have to admit that TVB has used an extremely dramatic approach to portray the workplace drama, hence the feeling of palace intrigue. However, the overall pace of the drama is fast, with many plot twists, making it exciting and enjoyable to watch. It still conveys values that are worth contemplating, such as relying on men or focusing on one's career. In an era where the trend of "lying flat" is prevalent and the younger generation lacks hope for surpassing their parents' achievements, Hong Kong dramas still exhibit a strong sense of fighting against all odds, which is admirable. That line, "Today, I'm going to show you what the pinnacle of news looks like," actually makes us see that everyone is doing news this way, instead of just chanting slogans about upgrading electronic publications. Admirable.

The constant conflicts and power struggles are very TVB and entertaining, but they lack logic, haha. For now, I'll give it 4 stars to show my support.
After finishing it on December 10th, I read a review on Xiaohongshu (Little Red Book) that perfectly captured my thoughts. The drama started off strong but stumbled towards the end, so I'm lowering my rating to 3 stars.
I wonder how they will handle the second season.

It's a missed opportunity, but at least it's not watered down. Almost every minute is filled with conflicts, but nowadays, film and television works can generally be divided into three categories: conflicts, love stories, or a combination of conflicts and love stories. This one can be considered mostly about conflicts.
However, the conflicts aren't exciting. The so-called profound truths they try to convey are all clichés, lacking subtlety and depth. Every character in the drama opposes the female lead, but their opposition lacks logic. Even the political maneuvers of Mrs. Fang, advocating for the separation of powers, lack logical consistency. The buildup to the female second lead's transformation into a villainess was dragged out, but the actress couldn't deliver the desired effect, making it feel like I was watching a bunch of lunatics.
The line "Find a man and get married" in this drama stands out, but the species uttering this line is of the same kind as those who used to say "Women who don't get married have issues." Those who treat this line as gospel probably have minds as dirty as public toilets. Certain individuals seem to take pride in their abnormality, as if it were some fashionable accessory. Whether one chooses to marry or not is a personal decision and should not be a source of shame. So, I've said it countless times: Feminism and masculinity should coexist.

I can get into it. I like these kind of crazy and ambitious characters, find them interesting. If you're bored, I recommend watching it for some fun. Mainly because I've seen too many formulaic lukewarm dramas in the entertainment industry, so I think this one is quite good. The beautiful women in it also appeal to me, maybe it's because of the filter used in previous dramas... After finishing it, I like Manjie's little dog. I still hope Manjie ends up with the dog, why does she keep lingering in the past... The ending is indeed a bit strange, whitewashing many characters, there's no real antagonist left, they've all been whitewashed... The pace is relatively fast compared to entertainment dramas, it's quite good... Let the storm of the little dog be more intense, the obedient little dog is just too cute...

It's the 21st century, why are they still forcing that typical forced happy ending? What did Manjie do wrong that everyone is against her? Whether it's the entertainment industry or the online world, age anxiety has always been echoing in our ears. However, "News Queen" precisely makes me confront the "age anxiety" that modern people "spread." What should a woman's life be about? Isn't it about being true to her own heart? Charmaine Sheh, at 48 years old, can still take on a leading role. Why does the domestic entertainment industry insist on casting actresses of this age as mothers? I don't understand. The first few episodes were quite interesting, but by the tenth episode, it had already drifted away from the news aspect and became purely about internal power struggles. It's a company controlled by family capital, focusing solely on local news and where all the employees are closely connected through alliances or hostilities. The higher-ups occasionally intentionally mute the prompter or turn off the microphone, seemingly intending to create live broadcasting accidents for their rivals. It doesn't really feel like a media giant at all. In essence, this drama is probably a fun show disguised as a workplace drama, allowing viewers to vicariously experience the journey of a powerful female lead overcoming obstacles. As viewers, happiness is the most important thing after all.

I'd give it a 3.5. When I first started watching, I felt that this drama was both fashionable and rustic. The rustic feel mainly comes from the endless slow-motion shots and the fast-paced music during confrontations. As I continued watching, I realized that the highlights lie in the complexity of each character's conflicts. So, don't blame one character for another character's flaws, because they're all the same in that regard. It's precisely because of this that it's exciting and enjoyable to watch.

News Queen" is one of the few recent dramas that successfully incorporates the term "queen" without being off-putting, and it even touches upon this theme in the ending.
Insults are met with finding a man to marry, blessings lead to a successful political career, and the interactions are cleverly executed. Finally, Youku has a good drama on their hands...
I love watching the queen's actions.
It's exciting but also a bit crazy. I don't understand why Zhang Jia Yan didn't form a strong alliance with Man Jie after gaining power to push forward with reforms.
Man Jie's reform ideas align well with her idealism. Instead, she ended up getting involved with Liang again, which completely derailed everything.
Admirable.
There's nothing more frustrating than watching women fighting fiercely, facing enemies from all sides, while men silently reap the benefits, enjoying the rewards without getting involved. It's tough to be alive sometimes.
I initially wanted to give a 5-star review out of personal bias for Man Jie! But overall, let's give it a 4-star rating! Man Jie is so powerful.
Ada Choi, you acted so well!
I was moved! Full of wisdom and sensuality! Salty and frustrated that the other female leads didn't reach the same level.
Seeing you made me feel awkward for the first antagonist.
They are just like millions of ordinary men. I pursue a career simply because I want to. I want to achieve something in the workplace and attain success in the conventional sense. That's why I prioritize my career over other things, and that's it.

The workplace drama is not very professional, but the internal conflicts are quite interesting and thought-provoking. The last few minutes of episode 26 were simply sublime. It's not a complete disappointment, and the cast gives off a nostalgic TVB vibe.
The female leads are stunning, and the male characters are all charismatic.
It seems like TVB's current visual style has shifted towards web dramas... The script of this drama is really heavy on palace intrigue. I almost thought I was watching "Beyond the Realm of Conscience" again, haha.
What's the deal with the constant flashbacks and the slow pacing? It's quite confusing.
This idiotic thing, always overthinking at work, causing trouble today and fixing something else tomorrow. It's exhausting to watch. "Empresses in the Palace" was enjoyable because I'll never enter the palace in my lifetime.
But it frustrates me to watch because I'll definitely have to go to work next year!
It's the 21st century, why are they still forcing that typical forced happy ending? What did Manjie do wrong that everyone is against her? After Jiayan's character turned dark, she actually teamed up with two guys to go against Manjie.
Couldn't they have worked together and brought down Zuoji and Fei?
It has flaws, but my ambition is burning fiercely... After watching it, I feel that being able to possess Manjie's tactics and abilities in the workplace, while still maintaining some original intentions, is already reaching a ceiling.
Cathy is truly a well-crafted character, with the closest underlying qualities to Manjie.
The world is not simply black or white. Everyone has their own dark thoughts and hidden sides. It's impossible to always find a definitive answer; answers are always just for reference.
I hope I can hold onto my inner principles and strive to be a kind person with the ability to discern right from wrong.
All phenomena are illusory. Seeing beyond appearances is seeing the Buddha.
Whether it's the norm or just the exceptional performances of the female leads who love this drama, they all deserve a score of 80 or above. Ma Ming's tearful reporting at the end was also impressive. Every character is fleshed out and feels real, and Bosco's cameo appearance was, as always, stylish.
The next season is called "News Sniper"? Acting is the foundation, and content is the bridge. Only by building it this way can we avoid shoddy workmanship.
If it weren't for the last three episodes, I would have given it a three-star rating. The character development was well-done, especially with Cathy, but Zhang Jia Yan's transformation was just too inexplicable...
It started off as an enjoyable drama in the earlier episodes.
Also, why does it feel like there are a few unresolved cases? Ahhh!
What kind of plot can trend? TVB is really embarrassing... The first episode was so exaggerated. She Shi Man and other actors were all trying hard to act. The storyline feels contrived, and the settings of the studio and conference room are like those of a palace drama with confrontational factions.
It's too outdated...
I don't know what Alibaba was thinking, airing a drama about press in a place that ranks so low on the Press Freedom Index. It's a dark comedy trying to educate the audience on professional ethics, but it's quite a joke.
They avoid discussing censorship, yet it's apparent everywhere, resembling a certain place.
It's been a long time since I've seriously followed Hong Kong dramas, and the Cantonese version is so exciting. The last few episodes were very touching, and each character was portrayed vividly.
There's no absolute good or bad, although I didn't like Zhang Jia Yan's character turning dark, the acting was on point. The pacing was a bit slow in the later part, but it didn't feel like a filler season.
Whether it's 28, 38, or even 48, age has never been an excuse to hold us back.
She Shi Man is unbeatable. Che Wan Wan is also fantastic; her enunciation and pronunciation surpass all newcomers. Zhang Jia Yan's mindset shift is completely understandable. She originally believed that by keeping herself pure and doing her best, she would eventually realize her own value.
Little did she know that it's often easier to achieve success by engaging in backstage power struggles rather than working hard every day. This drama tackles many women's issues, including patriarchy, girl helping girl, and balancing family and career.
It's quite bold. The dilemmas each girl faces in their career choices are portrayed delicately and realistically. As someone currently facing similar challenges, I feel inspired by it.
The Thorny Roses (SNK version) // The pursuit of fame and fortune is understandable, but being two-faced is becoming hard to watch! Xu Shi Qing wears her ambition on her face, yet she's not off-putting.
She constantly clamors for the truth to be revealed but loves to protect herself. And those who come to work without using their brains, it's really unbearable to watch.
Accidentally stumbled upon and finished watching it all! This should be the first Hong Kong drama I've ever followed! She Shi Man's presence is incredibly powerful!
Although it had a bit of a disappointing ending, especially with Zhang Jiayan's unclear character motivation. But the final battle between the king and queen!
Let's go!
There are always reasons why we want to watch each TV drama, even though some of the plotlines may be a bit rocky. But we can still find something to reflect on from within. I truly admire the confidence of Cathy, and every time I see Xiaowei, I just want to fast forward.
The way the leader first uses extremists and then establishes a balance of power is so realistic.
It's really enjoyable to watch! Although it's a bit exaggerated, the combination of workplace dynamics and palace intrigue is fascinating. Looking at the cast, I was always curious about Ah Xiao's character and almost forgot about it until the climax.
The moment he appeared with his curly hair and a slim waist, it was simply hilarious! Jia Yan also interviewed him on-site before, and regardless of everything, this is Coco Xuhui's parallel universe!
