Episode 1: Xiao Yuer is mistaken as the culprit.
Xiao Yuer is a mermaid from the South Sea. Her father was captured by fishermen, so she came to the land in order to find him and bring him back. With no food available and no money to buy anything, Xiao Yuer is starving. She spots Zhao Si and realizes that he is the merman who had taken her father away before. She quickly catches up to him and asks where he took her father. Zhao Si finds her inquiry strange and asks her to leave. >>read more
Episode 2: Gu Xinghe investigates the evidence.
The magistrate orders someone to quickly detain Xiao Yuer, but Gu Xinghe arrives and expresses surprise at seeing the magistrate hastily jump to conclusions. Gu Xinghe asks if they have any evidence, and the constable mentions that someone saw Xiao Yuer meeting with Zhao Si. Gu Xinghe points out that it's not sufficient evidence and promises to investigate without charging any fees this time. Gu Xinghe meets Xiao Yuer and asks if she is willing to go with him. >>read more
Episode 3: Gu Xinghe investigates the clues.
Gu Xinghe knows that Doctor Fan is actually a fake doctor. He didn't want to reveal it earlier because he was afraid of being exposed. Wang Liuhang feels embarrassed by Doctor Fan's actions. The magistrate discovers that several of his fish are missing, while Bao Rourou realizes that she has only eaten two of them and wonders how three could be missing. Bao Rourou hides here at midnight and sees Gu Xinghe, accusing him of being a fish thief. However, Gu Xinghe explains that he is here to investigate. >>read more
Episode 4: Gu Xinghe found the murderer.
Bao Rourou didn't believe it and said that she would find evidence to prove that Gu Xinghe was wrong. Bao Rourou came back to investigate but ended up being attacked by Chen Yan and taken away. Gu Xinghe learned that Bao Rourou had gone out and hadn't returned, and he felt that something must have happened to her. He rushed over and rescued Bao Rourou. Chen Yan was locked up in jail, and when Gu Xinghe asked how he knew it was him, Gu Xinghe mentioned that he had delivered tea to Zhao Si. However, there was no tea at home last time, so Chen Yan must have disposed of it. At that time, Gu Xinghe pretended to be sick and had a doctor come over, but he secretly returned through the window to create an alibi. >>read more
Episode 5: Yi Qifeng encounters trouble.
A mysterious figure dressed in black comes to the prison to see Chen Yan and expresses that he hasn't avenged his wife and children yet, and that he got himself locked up here. The figure asks if Chen Yan would be willing to accept this fate. The person in black gives Chen Yan a bottle of medicine, claiming that it is a fake death potion and leaves it up to Chen Yan to decide whether to take it or not. Yi Qifeng arrives with his team and instructs everyone to act separately. Episode 6: Lu Qing'er kidnaps Bao Rourou.
Lu Qing'er captures Yi Qifeng and expresses that she initially intended to kidnap Gu Xinghe but ended up capturing Yi Qifeng instead. Lu Qing'er asks Yi Qifeng who he really is and why he was in Gu Xinghe's room. Lu Qing'er slaps Yi Qifeng a few times and believes that Gu Xinghe has feelings for her. Yi Qifeng straightforwardly claims to be Gu Xinghe's lover and mentions that Gu Xinghe won't live much longer, questioning why someone is rushing to become a widow. >>read more
Episode 7: Gu Xinghe finds Yi Qifeng.
Gu Xinghe tells Lu Qing'er that Yi Qifeng is a commanding officer and urges her to release the person quickly. Lu Qing'er is surprised to learn that Yi Qifeng is indeed an official and promptly brings Gu Xinghe along. However, they discover that Yi Qifeng has suddenly disappeared, which astonishes Lu Qing'er, as Yi Qifeng was just there a moment ago. Bao Rourou detects the smell of firewood and Gu Xinghe suggests that it could be the scent of the woodshed, which would be normal in this context. >>read more
Episode 8: Gu Xinghe agrees to take Bao Rourou to Shengjing.
Bao Rourou goes to find Yi Qifeng and asks him if he knows about the merchant ship incident. Yi Qifeng says he went to Java. Gu Xinghe arrives, and Bao Rourou starts crying, asking Gu Xinghe to take her to Shengjing. Bao Rourou goes back first, and Yi Qifeng finds a pearl here that looks exactly like the mermaid pearl given by the emperor. Yi Qifeng secretly spills water outside Bao Rourou's door, trying to catch her in the act, but Gu Xinghe stops him in time. >>read more
Episode 9: Gu Xinghe investigates the clues.
Gu Xinghe is teaching Bao Rourou how to write here. He needs to go out and buy something, so he goes out for a moment. Yi Qifeng thinks that Bao Rourou's writing is incorrect. It should clearly be two tails, but she wrote it as two legs. How could a tail turn into a leg? It's not like she's a mermaid. Bao Rou Rou and Gu Xinghe came to see Qian You Yu. Gu Xinghe asked Qian You Yu if he had anything to say and mentioned that he didn't have time to act with him. Qian You Yu kept insisting that he didn't kill anyone and explained that previously, Li Gui and the other three bullied the kitchen maid Chun Lan and later killed her to keep her quiet. Qian You Yu claimed that he only witnessed it. Gu Xinghe asked why Qian You Yu didn't report it to the authorities. Lu Qing Er called Bao Rou Rou to the backyard, intending to push her into the water to let Gu Xinghe see Bao Rou Rou's true identity. However, Lu Qing Er accidentally fell into the water herself. Bao Rou Rou hesitated for a moment but ultimately jumped in to save Lu Qing Er. Upon hearing the commotion, Yi Qi Feng arrived, and Bao Rou Rou quickly fled. Episode 13: Gu Xinghe is in trouble.
Bao Rou Rou asked Gu Xinghe to take her to Shengjing, but Gu Xinghe wanted to continue delaying. Bao Rou Rou felt that Gu Xinghe was just deceiving her. Bao Rou Rou could only explain that Yi Qi Feng already knew about her being a mermaid, so he didn't bring her along. Gu Xinghe examines the body and confirms that it is indeed a case of suicide by hanging. Bao Rourou suggests that it's possible someone hanged Xiao Daren, but Gu Xinghe points out that there would likely be signs of struggle if that were the case. There is also a poem on Xiao Daren's arm related to the mermaid. Gu Xinghe speculates that what Bao Rourou saw was probably a government ship, all of which are searching for mermaids. >>read more
Episode 16: Bao Rou Rou discovered a problem.
Gu Xinghe felt something was off in the Buddha Hall and came over with Bao Rou Rou to investigate. Bao Rou Rou noticed a potted flower, and Gu Xinghe identified it as oleander, a highly toxic plant, warning Bao Rou Rou to be careful. Yi Qi Feng noticed an unburned incense stick and decided to light it to test it out. Suddenly, a dispute broke out between Yi Qi Feng and Gu Xinghe. Episode 17: Bao Rourou discovered mermaid blood.
Bao Rourou said that if she couldn't find her father, she wouldn't marry anyone. Gu Xinghe asked if they could be together forever if he found a way to become immortal. Bao Rourou was surprised to find mermaid blood. Gu Xinghe asked where the secret room was, and the person said that the backyard well was the entrance to the secret room. >>read more
Episode 18: Gu Xinghe meets the Emperor.
Bao Rourou felt that Gu Xinghe was just laughing at her earlier. Gu Xinghe denied it, but Bao Rourou insisted that she saw it. Gu Xinghe and Bao Rourou go to meet the Emperor, and Bao Rourou behaves improperly in front of the Emperor. Bao Rourou asks about the condition of Gu Xinghe's father, and his father explains that he went to pay respects and not to perform tricks. Episode 19: Bao Rou Rou meets her father.
Feng Xuan Zi reveals that the person who escaped three years ago is his daughter, and now a mermaid has arrived at the mansion, presumably to rescue him. Bao Rou Rou comes over and meets the mermaids here, confirming that her father is indeed imprisoned here. Episode 20: Gu Xing He's father is pressuring Gu Xing He.
Bao Rou Rou wonders why everyone desires immortality. If that weren't the case, her father wouldn't have left her, and she wouldn't have to worry about Gu Xing He leaving one day. Gu Xing He assures her that even if he disappears, his love for Bao Rou Rou will never fade.Gu Xing He pleads with his father to keep the secret. Gu Xing He's father promises to keep it, but once the task is accomplished, Gu Xing He must sever ties with Bao Rou Rou. Gu Xing He reluctantly agrees. Bao Rou Rou insists on weaving the Mermaid Silk and, upon returning, Gu Xing He gives her the loom. Bao Rou Rou weaves for a long time but still fails to produce the fabric. >>read more
Episode 21: Hai Ren fulfills Bao Rou Rou and Gu Xing He.
Wang Bu Liu Xing took the opportunity to rescue Hai Ren and bring him out. Bao Rou Rou was thrilled to see Hai Ren again. Hai Ren expressed that once he recovers a bit, they will return to the South Sea.
